Social Action

What does this committee do?

The purpose of this Commission is to infuse the Spirit of Christ into the laws, attitudes and morals of the community. Parishioners, through personal dedication to the human community, should strive to alleviate human suffering and even more—to eliminate the cause of social problems.

Responsabilities

The committee responsibilities are: education about justice, education about particular issues, and outreach.

Projects undertaken by the Social Action Commission include coordinating parish support of the Colfax-Mingo Food Pantry with funds, food, and personal hygiene items, supporting the Backpack program to provide assistance for food-insecure school children, providing pro-life resources to parishioners during Respect Life Month, facilitating the annual school supply drive for area school children, coordinating the annual winter coat/clothing drive, participating in the Colfax Halloween Walk.

Besides, we work with local parishioners and religious education students to write/send Thanksgiving and Christmas cards to the sick and elderly in the community, and facilitate the Baby Bottle Fund Drive for Birthright of Knoxville, a pro-life resource center that assists pregnant women and mothers.
